The Allen Hilles Fund aims to promote social justice. Grants target children's education, economic development in disadvantaged communities and activities of the Religious Society of Friends.

The Fund supports both specific programs and general operations and also provides seed money. Applications for operating support may include requests for leadership development. Preference is given to organizations with:

Priorities focus on:
• Organizations with annual budgets of less than $2 million
• Programs that target children's education, economic development in disadvantaged communities and activiities of the Religious Society of Friends
• Programs that focus on advocacy efforts and systemic change

The following are not priorities of the Hilles Fund. Support for:
• Organizations with annual budgets greater than $ 2 million
• Endowments
• Capital expenditures, including computers
• Agency promotion such as marketing, development or publication of annual reports
• Sponsorship of fund-raising events
• Charter or parochial schools
• Health and housing issues.

Qualifying tax-exempt organizations are eligible for grants.

Generally grants range from $3,000 to $10,000 and are made on a one-year basis.

Appplications must be submitted on paper, with six (6) copies. Email and fax applications are not accepted.

Incomplete applications will be deferred until they are complete.

No more than one request from an organization will be considered within a twelve-month period.

Organizations that have received continuous funding for four (4) years are asked to refrain from requesting further support for the next two (2) years.

Receipt of proposals will be acknowledged if applicants enclose a self-addressed envelope or their email address.

Grant recipients must provide a detailed narrative and financial report on how the funds were spent within one year of the grant payment.
